Yemeni Child Dies in Ibb Hospital Amid Suspected Medical Error
Ibb — A tragic incident has shaken the city of Ibb after the death of a young boy, Laith Mohammed Abdu, inside Al-Thawra General Hospital, which is under the control of Houthi forces.
The case has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over medical negligence in facilities across the country.
According to local sources, Laith was admitted to the hospital in a stable condition to undergo a minor surgical procedure on his hand.
However, his health deteriorated suddenly after being administered anesthesia, which observers suspect may have exceeded the permissible dosage.
The child fell into a coma that lasted four days before his death was officially declared in recent hours.
Families and rights advocates have described the incident as part of a troubling pattern of inadequate healthcare and lack of accountability in medical institutions operating under Houthi authority.
“This was supposed to be a simple operation. Instead, we lost a child due to negligence,” one relative said.
The case of Laith Mohammed Abdu adds to growing public anger over repeated reports of medical errors and poor standards of care in Yemen’s hospitals, particularly in areas affected by conflict and weakened oversight.
Calls are mounting for independent investigations and urgent reforms to ensure patient safety and prevent further tragedies.
